If you can’t send the filters back to the manufacturer, make sure to see what materials the filters are made of and you can recycle them in proper manner. Throw them away. This is not eco-friendly at all and we don’t advise this option, but if you have nothing else to do with the filter, you can throw it away or just reuse the parts for something.

With a good water filter, you will reduce the number of plastic bottles you purchase. But if you throw away your old water filter cartridges rather than recycle them, you will eventually build up quite a lot of waste. Do your best to figure out whether recycling is a viable option or not for your water filter brand.

People with Brita water filters can recycle them through a program called Gimme 5, which is run by Preserve. The Massachusetts-based manufacturer makes products like plates, cutlery, food storage containers and toothbrushes from recycled plastic.

Water filters. Water filters cannot be recycled as part of your recycling collection scheme nor at household waste recycling centres. However, if you use a BRITA branded water filter you can recycle the used filters at most Argos, Robert Dyas and Homebase stores where boxes are provided for the collection of used cartridges.

Mold In Used Filters. Water filters that have been overused and those that go unused for weeks (whether overused or not) should be removed and the pitcher should be thoroughly cleaned 3. Contaminants can rot in the filter. Left unmonitored they can begin to grow mold, especially in a humid location.

Purification. Most water purifiers are going to remove 95% or more (often more) of all contaminants in the water. For the average outdoorsperson, a water purifier is unnecessary. It’s overkill, because in the backcountry you are more likely to encounter bacteria, which is easily filtered out.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t do a great job of filtering contaminants from your well water or municipal water supply. If you want to remove fluoride, chlorine odors, heavy metals and sediment from your water, the Kangen system isn’t a good option.Instead, you should consider looking for a filter that uses a carbon-block.
